Tamil AI voice agents

Outpero's Tamil AI voice agent calls your leads in spoken Tamil — the way people actually talk on the phone, not written Tamil — and switches to English the moment the caller does, mid-sentence, in the same voice. It calls new enquiries within 30 seconds and logs a recording, transcript and summary for every call, from ₹5/min.

Why Tamil is hard for voice AI

Tamil is strongly diglossic: written and spoken Tamil differ so much that a voice agent reading formal text ('naan varugiren') sounds like a government announcement, while real callers say 'naan varen'. The script compounds this — one letter, க, can stand for k, g or h depending on position — so text-to-speech has to infer pronunciation. Tamil is agglutinative, Chennai speech is dense with English, and Kongu, Madurai and Tirunelveli speech differ noticeably in vocabulary and intonation.

What Outpero does in Tamil

Tamil is live. The agent speaks colloquial spoken Tamil with respectful forms ('neenga', 'sollunga') and follows callers into English, which on Chennai and Coimbatore business calls is constant. There is no separate Kongu, Madurai or Chennai dialect model — the agent uses a neutral spoken register — so test with real leads from your region, especially in the southern districts.

By use

Five ways to use a Tamil AI voice agent

Tamil AI calling agent

A Tamil AI calling agent calls the lead before they browse elsewhere. Outpero dials a new school, jewellery or property enquiry within 30 seconds in colloquial Tamil, uses 'neenga' and 'sollunga' respectfully, and follows into English the way Chennai and Coimbatore callers naturally do.

Tamil voice bot

A Tamil voice bot should sound like phone Tamil, not a textbook. Outpero's agent avoids formal forms like 'naan varugiren' and answers in 'naan varen' style, replying to open sentences such as 'fees evlo, bus irukka' without asking the caller to pick an option from a list.

Tamil AI receptionist

The agent answers inbound calls to your number around the clock, greets in Tamil, notes what the caller wants, books a visit or appointment and writes it up. For a hospital, school office or showroom, the call can go to your team when a person is better placed.

Tamil IVR replacement

A Tamil IVR replacement means no 'Tamil-ukku 1' step and no layered options. The caller says 'admission pathi ketkanum' or 'order status sollunga' and the agent responds. Tamil is verb-final, so it waits for the caller to finish before answering, rather than cutting in.

Tamil AI telecalling

Tamil AI telecalling handles repeat list work in volume: fee reminders, admission follow-ups, dealer enquiries and renewals. Upload a CSV, set windows and retries, and each contact gets a spoken Tamil call with DND screening applied. Results come back as transcripts, summaries and sentiment, not as notes typed by hand.

Best Tamil AI voice agent: how to judge one

What to testHow to test it
Spoken versus written TamilAsk a question formally and informally. The agent should answer in the everyday form, such as 'varen' and 'poren', not stiff written verbs that sound like a government announcement or a news reader.
ழ, ள and ல in namesSay names and places that depend on these three sounds, like Valli and Vazhi, or Azhagu and Alagu. Check the agent hears them and that the log spells names in a form staff can read.
Verb-final sentences and pausesTamil negation and intent often arrive at the end, as in 'vara mudiyaadhu'. Pause mid-sentence on purpose and check the agent waits instead of answering a half-finished thought.
Tanglish with English nounsSay 'EMI evlo varum, interest fixed-aa' and 'Class 6 admission pannanum'. The reply should continue in the same voice and keep the Tamil question endings, not restart in a single language.
Kinship and sir/madam addressCallers say 'anna', 'akka', 'sir' or 'madam' casually. Check the agent answers with the right level of respect to each, and does not use 'nee' with a stranger.

What you will hear

How Tamil is spoken across regions

VarietyWhat to expect
Chennai Tamil (Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram)Quick, heavy on English words and slang, and shortened endings. The agent speaks a neutral spoken register, so a pilot with Chennai leads is the sensible first check.
Kongu Tamil (Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem)Often described as soft and courteous, with its own word choices and intonation. No dedicated Kongu model exists, so listen to a real batch before widening a campaign.
Madurai and southern Tamil (Madurai, Dindigul, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram)Has its own vocabulary and forceful intonation. Outpero does not claim training on it; test with callers from these districts and read the transcripts closely.
Tirunelveli Tamil (Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari)Distinct word choices and a pronounced rhythm, often hard for other Tamils to follow at first. Treat it as untested until your own pilot calls prove otherwise.

Tamil AI voice agent or Tamil text to speech?

A Tamil text-to-speech tool or AI voice-over generator reads written text aloud, usually for videos, ads or announcements, and the text has to be written first. It does not listen. A Tamil AI voice agent takes part in a live call: it understands the answer, replies, books the visit and logs the outcome. Outpero's voice broadcast only plays one fixed message and is not an AI conversation.

Questions people ask

Does the agent speak formal Tamil or spoken Tamil?

+

Spoken Tamil. Formal, written-style Tamil on a sales call sounds stiff and distant, so the agent uses the everyday register a polite Chennai telecaller would use — 'neenga', 'sollunga', 'paakalaama' — while keeping it respectful. If your brand needs more formality, for example a hospital or a bank, you can adjust tone and phrasing in the script.

Will callers from Coimbatore or Madurai understand it, and will it understand them?

+

The agent speaks a neutral spoken Tamil intended to work across the state, and it is built for accented, everyday speech rather than studio audio. Outpero does not train separate Kongu or southern dialect models, so strongly regional speech is where you should test first. A small batch from your own list, read alongside the transcripts, will show you quickly how it performs.

How common is Tanglish on business calls, and does the agent cope?

+

Very common — in Chennai, a caller might say 'EMI evlo varum, interest rate fixed-aa' without noticing the switch. The agent follows the caller into English mid-sentence in the same voice and keeps going, so nobody is asked to repeat themselves or pick a language. Words like booking, appointment and loan amount usually arrive in English anyway.

Which Tamil Nadu industries suit a Tamil AI calling agent?

+

Coaching and college admissions around NEET and engineering counselling, hospitals and diagnostic labs in Chennai and Madurai, real estate leads from 99acres and MagicBricks along OMR and in Coimbatore, textile and manufacturing enquiries from IndiaMART in Tiruppur and Erode, and two-wheeler and car dealerships. The agent calls within 30 seconds and can book a slot or send a WhatsApp message during the call.

How do I test the Tamil agent?

+

Sign up at app.outpero.com for 50 free credits — about ten minutes at the Standard ₹5/min tier. Call your own phone and play a difficult customer: answer in Tanglish, interrupt, give a pincode and a date. Then read the transcript and summary in the dashboard. There is no setup fee, no monthly base fee and no contract.

How much does a Tamil AI voice agent cost?

+

Outpero has no setup fee and no monthly base fee — you pay only for connected talk time, from ₹5 per minute (1 credit = ₹1, credits never expire), plus ₹649/month for a dedicated calling number. The price is the same in every language.

What is the best Tamil AI voice agent?

+

The best Tamil AI voice agent is the one that passes your own test on your own callers. Check spoken versus written Tamil; ழ, ள and ல in names; verb-final sentences and pauses. Outpero is a specialist in regional-language voice AI and publishes its price, but it is the vendor writing this page, so run the same tests on any shortlist.

Enterprise and custom: volume plans go as low as ₹3.5/min, quoted on your needs.
