Which Indian languages do AI voice agents support?
It varies by vendor, so judge live calls, not feature lists. Outpero's agents hold calls in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam and Indian English, and switch to English mid-sentence when the caller does. Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Odia, Urdu, Assamese and Konkani are not supported by Outpero today.

Not supported by Outpero
Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Odia, Urdu, Assamese and Konkani are not supported, and neither is any language outside the list above. Businesses selling mainly to callers who need those languages should use human callers or another vendor for that segment, and an AI agent for the rest.
Why 'supported' means different things
A vendor can list dozens of languages because its speech recognition model recognises them. That is not the same as holding a fluent sales call. For each language you need, check four things on a live call to your own phone:
- —Recognition: does it understand natural, fast speech with English mixed in?
- —Voice: does it sound like a native speaker, or like an English voice reading transliterated text?
- —Switching: can it follow the caller into English mid-sentence?
- —Latency: does the reply arrive quickly enough to feel like a conversation? Outpero's is 0.8 to 1.3 seconds on average end to end.
Coverage in practice
By Census 2011 first-language counts, Outpero's six Indian languages cover roughly seven in ten Indians, with Hindi alone at about 528 million speakers. The biggest gaps are Bengali at about 97 million, Gujarati at about 55 million and Urdu at about 51 million.
Language is set on the agent. To call a pan-India list, split it by state or stated language preference and run one campaign per language. How many campaigns run at once depends on your channels, each one call at a time on your number, and every call returns a recording, transcript and summary so you can compare languages side by side.
