How do I choose the right voice for an AI calling agent?
Choose the voice by matching it to the call's value and the caller's language. Outpero has two tiers: Standard at ₹5 per minute, the all-rounder for sales, service and bulk reminder calls; and Premium at ₹6.8, our most lifelike voices for high-value conversations. Test two or three voices before deciding.
Start with the job
| Tier | Price per minute | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | ₹5 | Lead qualification, appointment booking, renewals, reminders, COD confirmations, most daily use |
| Premium | ₹6.8 | High-ticket sales, premium brands, conversations where trust decides the outcome |
You pay only for connected talk time, from prepaid credits, so the tier can differ by AI employee. Many businesses run reminders and lead calls on Standard and keep Premium for the calls where the voice is the brand. For a fixed message that needs no conversation, a voice broadcast costs less than any AI tier.
Match the language and region
A Chennai customer hears a Tamil voice differently from a voice that sounds like a Hindi speaker reading Tamil. Pick a voice that sounds native in the call's language, whether Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam or Indian English. Every Outpero voice switches to English mid-sentence when the caller does, in the same voice, so a Hinglish or Tanglish caller hears one consistent person.
Match the brand
- —A luxury real-estate project or an IVF clinic suits a calm, warm, unhurried voice.
- —A COD confirmation or EMI reminder suits a clear, neutral, efficient voice.
- —A coaching institute calling students may suit a younger, friendlier tone; calling parents, a more measured one.
Give the agent a name that fits the voice and the region, and keep it consistent, so a customer who gets a second call hears the same persona.
How to decide
- 01Shortlist two or three voices that fit the language and brand.
- 02Run the same brief with each on your own phone, in a quiet room and then outdoors on speaker.
- 03Ask two colleagues who match your customers' profile which voice they would stay on the line for.
- 04If budget allows, compare two voices on a small live batch and look at completion rates.
Latency matters as much as timbre
A pleasant voice that pauses too long before replying still feels robotic. Outpero runs at 0.8 to 1.3 seconds on average end-to-end, from the caller finishing to the agent speaking, and Premium voices are tuned for ultra-low latency, which matters most in fast back-and-forth sales calls.
