How do I make AI calls sound more natural?
AI calls sound natural mostly because of the script and the voice choice: short sentences, everyday words in the caller's language with English where people actually use it, one question per turn, a voice that suits your audience, and fast replies so there are no awkward gaps. Let the caller interrupt, and cut anything that sounds like it was written for a brochure.
Write how people talk
- —Use the words your customers use: ‘flat’, ‘booking amount’, ‘EMI’, ‘fees’, ‘batch’ — not ‘residential unit’ or ‘tuition consideration’.
- —Mix English the way real callers do. Pure, formal Hindi or Tamil sounds stiffer than a real conversation.
- —Keep each turn to one or two sentences.
- —Add small acknowledgements — ‘achha’, ‘sure’, ‘samajh gayi’ — before moving on.
Before and after
Stiff: आपकी पूछताछ के संदर्भ में हम आपको सूचित करना चाहते हैं कि हमारी आवासीय परियोजना में इकाइयाँ उपलब्ध हैं।
Natural: आपने जो 2BHK के बारे में पूछा था, उसमें अभी कुछ flats available हैं — आप किस floor पर देख रहे थे?
Translation of the natural line: “Some flats are still available in the 2BHK you asked about — which floor were you looking at?” Same information, but it sounds like a person and ends with a question.
Pick the right voice
| Voice tier | Per minute | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | ₹5 | Most sales and qualification calls, plus bulk reminders and confirmations |
| Premium | ₹6.8 | Our most lifelike voices, for high-value conversations |
Both tiers speak every live language at the same price, so the choice is about the job and not the language. Run reminders, confirmations and routine lead calls on Standard, and keep Premium for the first call to a high-value lead or any call where the voice is the brand. Split-test a small batch on each before committing a whole list.
Speed and interruptions
Long pauses after the caller stops talking are what most give an AI away. So is talking over someone who interrupts. A low-latency agent that stops when the caller cuts in feels much closer to a real telecaller.
End-to-end conversational latency is 0.8 to 1.3 seconds on average from when the caller stops to when the agent speaks. The agent works in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam and Indian English, and switches to English mid-sentence when the caller does, in the same voice.
