Can you choose the voice of your AI voice agent?
Yes. Most AI voice agent platforms let you pick from voices that differ in gender, age, tone and language, and some offer higher-quality tiers. The right choice depends on the caller and the call type. Outpero has two voice tiers: Standard at ₹5/min as the all-rounder, and Premium at ₹6.8/min, our most lifelike voices.
What varies between voices
- —Language and accent: a Tamil voice for Chennai callers, a Marathi voice for Pune.
- —Gender and age: some businesses prefer a voice that matches their staff or audience.
- —Warmth and energy: friendly and upbeat for admissions, calm and measured for collections.
- —Pace: slower for older callers or complex information.
- —Latency: some higher-quality voices are also faster to respond.
How to choose
Start with language. A voice built for the caller's language will pronounce names, places and numbers far better than an English voice reading Hindi text. Then match the tone to the call: a payment reminder should sound polite and serious, while a gym trial booking can be lighter.
Test with real calls, not samples. Voices sound different on narrowband phone audio than on laptop speakers. Ask a few colleagues to take test calls and say which voice they would stay on the line for.
Voice persona
Beyond the voice itself, the agent's persona is set in its instructions: its name, how it introduces itself, its formality and the words it uses. A good persona fits the brand. A premium real estate developer and a neighbourhood coaching centre should not sound the same, even with the same underlying voice.
Outpero's voice tiers
| Tier | Price | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | ₹5/min | Expressive voices for everyday sales and support, the most chosen |
| Premium | ₹6.8/min | Our most lifelike voices, for calls where the voice is the brand |
Both tiers are billed only for connected talk time from prepaid credits, with no setup fee and no monthly base fee. In every language, the agent switches to English in the same voice when the caller does.

Follow-up questions
Should an AI agent use a male or a female voice?
+
There is no universal answer, and assumptions based on stereotypes are unreliable. What matters more is that the voice sounds natural, speaks the caller's language well and suits the tone of the call. If you are unsure, run two versions of the same campaign with different voices and compare outcomes such as completed conversations and bookings.
