Top Conversational AI Companies in India (Voice-First Picks)

Conversational AI companies in India fall into four groups: voice-first agents, multichannel enterprise platforms, vertical specialists and call-intelligence tools, and the name covers all of them. This guide sorts a dozen of them by what they actually sell, using their own websites as read on 2026-10-14. Outpero publishes it and is one of the voice-first options, so check every claim against the sources.

What 'conversational AI' means when a vendor says it

Conversational AI is software that holds a back-and-forth exchange with a person in natural language, by text or by voice. That one definition hides three very different products, and Indian vendors use the label for all of them.

The first is the messaging bot: a WhatsApp, web or RCS assistant that answers questions and routes tickets. The second is the voice agent: software that makes or answers phone calls and talks like a person. The third is conversation intelligence: software that listens to calls your human team already makes and scores, summarises and coaches them. All three are conversational AI. They solve different problems and are bought by different people in a company.

So the first question for any shortlist is not which company is best. It is which layer you are buying. A bank that wants every agent call audited needs a different vendor from a clinic that wants missed calls answered in Telugu.

Four kinds of conversational AI company in India

  • —Voice-first agents: products whose main output is a phone conversation. Outpero, Ringg AI and Gnani.ai sit here, though they differ sharply in who they sell to.
  • —Multichannel enterprise platforms: voice is one channel among WhatsApp, web, RCS and email. Haptik, Yellow.ai and Gupshup are the examples in this guide.
  • —Vertical specialists: built around one job, such as debt collection (Skit.ai) or outbound sales calling with a forward-deployed engineer on every account (SquadStack).
  • —Conversation intelligence: Convin audits and coaches human calls, with AI phone calls as a newer product line.

Telephony companies such as Exotel, Ozonetel and Knowlarity also add voice AI to their phone systems. They are covered in the separate guides on IVR and telecalling software linked below, because their buyers usually start from the phone line, not the conversation.

The companies side by side, on published facts

Every cell comes from the vendor's own site, read on 2026-10-14. 'Not published' means the pages checked did not say. Claims such as language counts are the vendor's own and have not been independently tested.

Where each kind is the better choice

A fair comparison has to say where Outpero loses. On three counts, several of the companies above are stronger.

  • —Regulated enterprise deployment. Gnani.ai lists SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, HIPAA and PCI-DSS, and offers private cloud, on-premise and air-gapped options. Yellow.ai and Haptik publish long compliance lists too. Outpero is a self-serve product for businesses of any size, not an on-premise installation.
  • —Language breadth. Gnani.ai and SquadStack name Bengali, Gujarati and Punjabi, which Outpero does not support today. Outpero covers seven languages.
  • —Channel breadth. If you need WhatsApp, RCS, Instagram and web assistants from one vendor, Haptik, Yellow.ai and Gupshup are built for that. Outpero is voice, with a WhatsApp message sent during or after a call when you enable it.
  • —Vertical depth. Skit.ai is built for collections with US-style guardrails, and Convin is built to audit human conversations. A general-purpose voice agent does not replace either job.

Want to hear this working, not just read about it?

Haptik also tells you something about ownership that matters for procurement. Its own blog says Reliance Industries holds about 87 percent through a subsidiary, so it is a Jio-group company. That may be a point in its favour or against it, depending on your own vendor policy.

Why regional-language voice is a separate problem from chat

A customer who types in English on WhatsApp may speak Tamil on a call. Speech is where regional languages live, and it is also where generic systems fail: a caller from Coimbatore says a sentence in Tamil, drops in the English word for 'appointment', and ends with a Tamil verb. This mixing has names: Hinglish, Tanglish, Tenglish, Kanglish and Manglish.

A voice-first vendor has to handle that mix inside a single sentence, in a voice that sounds natural and answers within a second or two. Outpero's voice engine, Swara, switches to English the moment the caller does, in the same voice, and responds in 0.8 to 1.3 seconds on average from the moment the caller stops speaking. Chat platforms rarely face this test, because typed text does not carry accent, hesitation or noise.

A language count is not a language test

Claims such as '40+', '70+', '100+' or '500+' languages describe what a platform lists, not how well it handles a Hyderabad caller mixing Telugu and English. Only a call tells you that.

Six criteria for choosing a conversational AI company

  1. 01Layer. Decide first whether you need chat, voice or call analytics. Many projects are bought from the wrong category and abandoned.
  2. 02Language handling on real audio. Give the vendor five recordings from your own customers, including noisy ones, and ask for the agent's reply on each.
  3. 03Time to first live call. Self-serve products start the same day; enterprise platforms often run pilots of four to eight weeks, as Skit.ai and SquadStack publish. Neither is wrong, but the timelines suit different buyers.
  4. 04Price you can calculate. A published per-minute or per-session rate lets you forecast. 'Book a demo' can mean a good bespoke deal or a surprise, so ask for a worked quote on your expected volume.
  5. 05India telephony and compliance. Ask about a DLT-registered calling line and DND screening for outbound calls. Several vendors above do not mention DLT on the pages checked.
  6. 06What happens after the call. You want the recording, transcript, summary and the fields you asked for, delivered to your CRM or webhook, not just a call that went well.

A one-afternoon test that works for any vendor

  1. 01Write a real scenario: an enquiry about a product, with one objection and one request to speak to a person.
  2. 02Run it in the language your customers use, with the English they would mix in. Do it from a normal mobile phone on a normal network, not a studio line.
  3. 03Time the gap between the moment you stop talking and the moment the agent starts. A pause beyond two seconds feels broken to most callers.
  4. 04Interrupt the agent mid-sentence. A good system stops and listens.
  5. 05Ask for a person. Check whether the call is passed to your team with the context, or whether the agent just ends.
  6. 06Read the transcript and summary afterwards. Check that the name, number and requirement it captured are correct.

Run the same script with each vendor on your shortlist so the results are comparable. Ten calls per vendor is enough to see a pattern. Our guide to choosing an AI voice agent covers a longer checklist.

Where Outpero fits, and where it does not

Outpero is an AI employee that makes and answers phone calls for a business. It is a specialist in regional-language voice: Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada and Malayalam, plus Indian English, at the same per-minute price in every language. It calls a new lead within 30 seconds of the enquiry arriving, runs bulk campaigns from a CSV, answers inbound calls around the clock, and plays voice broadcasts for announcements and reminders.

Pricing is Standard at ₹5 per connected minute or Premium at ₹6.8, with no setup fee and no monthly subscription, from prepaid credits that do not expire. A dedicated +91 business number is ₹649 a month and includes one channel; extra channels, which are how many calls run at once, are ₹649 a month each. All prices exclude 18% GST. New accounts get 50 free credits with no card.

Outpero is the wrong choice if you need WhatsApp-first support across five channels, if you need air-gapped deployment, or if your customers need Bengali or Gujarati. It is a good fit if your problem is people not being reached, or not being understood, on a phone call in their own language.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between conversational AI and an AI voice agent?

+

Conversational AI is the broad category: any software that converses with a person by text or voice. An AI voice agent is the voice-only part of it, software that makes or answers phone calls and speaks naturally. A WhatsApp assistant is conversational AI but not a voice agent, and an AI voice agent is always conversational AI.

Which conversational AI companies in India support regional languages?

+

Most list several. Gnani.ai names nine Indian languages and SquadStack names nine, including Bengali and Gujarati. Outpero supports Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam and Indian English. Haptik, Yellow.ai and Ringg claim large language counts without naming them. Test the language you need on a live call rather than trusting the number.

How much does conversational AI cost in India?

+

It depends on the layer. Outpero publishes ₹5 or ₹6.8 per connected minute plus 18% GST. Ringg AI publishes ₹6 per connected minute with a monthly minimum. SquadStack says typically ₹2 to ₹5 a minute plus a one-time enterprise setup cost. Gnani.ai, Haptik, Yellow.ai and Skit.ai publish no voice rate, so you need a quote.

Is a chatbot company enough for phone calls?

+

Usually not. A chatbot platform handles typed messages, and phone calls add speech recognition, natural voice, interruption handling, telephony and compliance such as DLT and DND screening. Some platforms, including Haptik, Yellow.ai and Gupshup, have added voice. Judge that voice product on a live call in your language, separately from their chat product.

How long does it take to deploy conversational AI?

+

Self-serve voice products can make a first call the same day. Enterprise platforms run longer: Skit.ai says typical pilots go live in four to six weeks, and SquadStack describes about two weeks of setup followed by a four to eight week pilot. Pick the timeline that suits your urgency and how much help you want.

Can I try Outpero before committing?

+

Yes. Signing up gives 50 free credits with no card required, which is enough for a handful of short test calls. There is no setup fee, subscription or lock-in, and credits never expire. Test it in the language your customers use, and read the transcript and summary after each call.
