Tamil AI Voice Agent for Gold Loan and NBFC Collections

A Tamil AI voice agent helps a gold loan lender or NBFC with the polite, repeatable calls: following up a new enquiry within seconds, reminding a borrower of an interest or EMI date, and prompting a renewal before maturity, all in spoken Tamil with English mixed in. It reminds and records. It does not threaten, negotiate settlements or discuss recovery action, and compliance with RBI fair-practice rules stays with the lender. Outpero offers this AI voice agent, or AI employee, from ₹5 a connected minute.

This page is general information, not legal advice. RBI fair-practice and recovery rules, calling hours, consent and do-not-call duties belong to the lender, and the rules change. Confirm the current circulars with your compliance officer before any campaign goes live.

Why gold loan and NBFC calling suits a Tamil voice agent

Gold loans are a large business in Tamil Nadu, where gold is held as savings and used for short-term credit by families, small traders and farmers alike. Banks, NBFCs and local lenders all compete for the same borrowers, and a large part of the work is repetitive phone contact: a prospect who enquired online, a borrower whose interest date is near, a customer whose loan is about to mature. Most of those calls are better in Tamil, often with English terms such as renewal, EMI and branch mixed in.

A Tamil AI voice agent can carry that repeated contact at scale. It calls in spoken Tamil, follows the customer into English when they switch, records what was said, and flags the conversations that need a person. It is a calling tool for the soft end of the process. Hard-stage recovery, settlements and anything contentious stay with trained staff.

Three jobs it does well

1. Enquiry follow-up

A customer who clicks a Meta ad or fills a website form is still deciding. Outpero calls a new enquiry in under 30 seconds*, where *the speed depends on how fast the lead source delivers it. In Tamil, the agent asks the practical questions: roughly how much gold, what purpose, which branch is convenient and when the customer can visit. It books a branch-visit slot in Google Calendar and records the answers for the branch.

It does not quote a rate, a loan-to-value ratio or an eligible amount as a commitment. It says only what the lender has loaded into its knowledge base, and tells the customer that valuation happens at the branch.

2. Interest and EMI reminders

For a gold loan with periodic interest, or an NBFC loan with an EMI, a reminder a few days before the date reduces accidental misses. The agent calls, states the due date, listens to the answer and logs the intent: will pay, needs more time, wants to speak to the branch, or disputes the amount. Anything other than a simple yes is flagged in the summary for a human to follow up.

3. Renewal and maturity follow-up

Customers with a loan nearing maturity often need a nudge to renew or close it. The agent calls ahead of the date, explains in Tamil that the loan is nearing maturity and asks when the customer plans to visit. It does not discuss auction, penalty or legal steps. Those are for the branch.

What the compliance line looks like

Want to hear this working, not just read about it?

RBI's fair-practice expectations for lenders apply to recovery and reminder calls whoever makes them: a person, an agency or an AI voice agent. In general terms, that means contacting borrowers at reasonable hours, treating them with courtesy and without threats or pressure, identifying the lender, and not harassing the borrower or other people in connection with a loan. Exact hours and wording are set out in RBI circulars, which should be read with the lender's compliance team and kept current.

  • —Calling hours: Outpero lets a customer narrow the calling window, and the platform limits calls to lawful hours, but the lender decides the window and checks it against RBI and TRAI rules.
  • —Consent and purpose: the lender confirms it has the right to contact each number for this purpose, and an attestation is required before a campaign or lead source goes live.
  • —Do-not-call: an account-level do-not-call list is enforced at import, at lead arrival and at dial, and a caller who clearly opts out is added. Scrubbing numbers against the national registry remains the lender's responsibility.
  • —Recording notice: a toggle plays 'This call is being recorded' before the greeting, if the lender wants it.
  • —Tone: the agent's brief states that it never threatens, never raises its voice and ends the call politely when the customer asks.
  • —Scope: the agent calls the borrower only and does not discuss the loan with anyone else who picks up.

Setting it up in practice

  1. 01Write the brief with the compliance team: what may be said, what may not, and who gets flagged.
  2. 02Load the lender's own wording into the knowledge base, including branch addresses and documents needed. Leave rates and eligibility out unless approved.
  3. 03Upload the list as a CSV with name, phone and due date, so the agent can say the date correctly in each call.
  4. 04Set the calling window and retry ladder, then switch on the do-not-call controls and the recording notice if needed.
  5. 05Capture the outcome fields: will pay, needs time, wants branch, dispute, opted out.
  6. 06Send the summary and captured fields to the collections team through a webhook, so a person follows up on every exception.

Tamil on the phone with a borrower: what to test

Borrowers range from a salaried customer in Chennai who answers in Tanglish to a small trader in Madurai or Erode who speaks plain district Tamil and expects courtesy. Test both. Say 'interest evlo katanum' and 'renewal pannanum, amount sollunga' and check that the agent answers in the same easy register without quoting a figure it was never given.

Check the respectful forms as well. A borrower older than the agent's voice should be addressed with 'neenga' and with sir or madam, and never with 'nee'. Listen for how it handles silence, since many borrowers pause before admitting a payment will be late, and the agent should wait for the end of the Tamil sentence before replying. Outpero uses a neutral spoken register and is not trained per district, so a pilot on your own borrowers is the real test.

A sensible rollout begins with enquiry follow-up, which carries the least risk, moves to reminders on a small segment, and widens only after the compliance team has read a sample of transcripts and approved the wording.

What it costs, in rupees

As an illustration, take a lender with 5,000 reminder dials in a month where 3,000 connect for an average of 1.5 minutes. That is 4,500 connected minutes. At the Standard rate, 4,500 × ₹5 = ₹22,500, plus ₹649 for the number, which is ₹23,149 before GST and about ₹27,316 with 18% GST. Unanswered calls are not billed. Each channel works through roughly 55 dials an hour, so 5,000 dials on 3 channels take about 30 hours of calling windows.

For a fixed due-date notice that needs no answer, voice broadcast plays one message to the list and is billed at a lower rate than conversation minutes. The rate is not published yet. Use it when the call does not need to listen.

Honest limits

  • —It reminds and records. It is not a recovery agent and should not be briefed to pressure a borrower.
  • —It does not quote loan-to-value, interest rates or eligible amounts unless the lender has approved the exact wording.
  • —It does not discuss auction, penalty or legal steps. Those calls belong to trained staff.
  • —Outpero does not scrub numbers against the national registry on its own, and does not send SMS or email to the borrower.
  • —A borrower who speaks a strong regional variety or a language outside the seven supported may need a person to call back.
  • —Run a Tamil pilot on your own borrowers first, and read the transcripts before scaling.

Frequently asked questions

Can a Tamil AI voice agent make gold loan reminder calls?

+

Yes. It calls in spoken Tamil, states the interest or EMI due date from your list, listens to the answer and logs the intent. Anything other than a simple yes is flagged for a person. It reminds and records, and does not threaten or discuss recovery action.

Does it follow RBI rules on recovery calls and calling hours?

+

Compliance stays with the lender. Outpero limits calls to lawful hours and lets you narrow the window, but you decide the hours and tone against current RBI circulars. This is general information, not legal advice, so confirm the rules with your compliance team before launch.

How does it handle do-not-call and consent?

+

An account-level do-not-call list is enforced at import, at lead arrival and at dial, and a clear opt-out is added to it. You confirm consent before launching a campaign. Scrubbing against the national registry is still the lender's responsibility, as Outpero does not do it automatically.

Can it follow up a new gold loan enquiry from a Meta ad?

+

Yes. Outpero calls a new lead in under 30 seconds*, depending on how fast the ad platform or CRM delivers the lead. It asks about gold quantity, purpose and branch, books a visit slot in Google Calendar, and leaves valuation and offer terms to the branch.

What does it cost for 4,500 connected minutes a month?

+

At the Standard rate that is 4,500 × ₹5 = ₹22,500, plus ₹649 for the number, which is ₹23,149 before GST and about ₹27,316 with 18% GST. There is no setup fee or subscription, and only connected time is billed. This is illustrative.

What should never be given to the agent to say?

+

Do not brief it to threaten, to discuss auction or legal action, to quote rates or eligibility without approved wording, or to talk about the loan with anyone other than the borrower. Keep it to reminders, simple questions, booking a branch visit and flagging exceptions for staff.
