Best Hindi AI Voice Agent (2026): A 5-Step Test That Works
The best Hindi AI voice agent is the one that passes a ten-minute phone test: it holds a Hinglish conversation without asking the caller to pick a language, keeps the respectful 'aap' register and the right gender forms, reads numbers like 'paune do lakh' correctly, and replies in about 1.5 seconds. Outpero, a specialist in regional-language voice AI, speaks Hindi among seven languages from ₹5/min with no setup fee. The test below works on any vendor, so run it on every shortlisted one.
Outpero publishes this guide and sells an AI voice agent, so it has an interest in the answer. The test method works on any vendor, Outpero included. The vendor table uses only details from each vendor's own public pages, checked on 2026-10-14, and says where a competitor is stronger.
Why Hindi is harder for voice AI than its size suggests
Hindi has more first-language speakers than any other Indian language, 528 million in Census 2011, so most voice AI vendors treat it as solved. A scripted Hindi demo does sound fine. Real phone calls fail in small places: one wrong verb ending, one misheard number, one switch into English that the agent treats as an error.
Devanagari on the page, Hinglish on the line
Nobody on a sales call speaks textbook Hindi. A caller says 'main kal visit karunga, but pehle budget confirm kar lijiye', and the sentence runs on Hindi grammar with English nouns and verbs. English words take Hindi endings: 'confirm kar diya', 'cancel ho gaya'. An agent that treats Hindi and English as two separate modes either stalls at the join or answers in the wrong language.
Outpero's Hindi agent opens in Hindi and follows the caller into English mid-sentence, in the same voice, with no hand-off to another system and no request to repeat. Hinglish is not a setting to switch on; it is how the Hindi agent works by default.
Aap, tum and gender
Hindi verbs agree with the gender of the speaker, so a female-voiced agent says 'bol rahi hoon' and a male-voiced one says 'bol raha hoon', and the script has to stay consistent for the whole call. Addressing the caller is harder, because 'aap aaye the' and 'aap aayi thin' cannot both be right. A careful script avoids the guess until the caller's name or voice settles it.
Register matters even more. Slipping from 'aap' to 'tum' with a customer reads as rude, and with an older caller it reads as an insult. Names also carry their own respect markers, such as Sharma ji or Gupta sahab, which should be repeated back and not stripped.
Numbers are irregular words
Hindi numbers from 1 to 100 are not built from tens and units. 'Unchaas' (49) and 'ikyaasi' (81) are routinely misheard. Money has its own vocabulary: 'dedh' is 1.5, 'dhai' is 2.5, 'sawa' adds a quarter and 'paune' takes a quarter off, so 'paune do lakh' is ₹1.75 lakh. Phone numbers add 'double' and 'triple', so 'double saat' means 77.
Callers also mix numeral systems inside one number, reading three digits in Hindi and the rest in English. Every one of these is a place where a booking or a callback number can be recorded wrongly.
Dates, dialects and the word 'kal'
'Kal' means both yesterday and tomorrow, and 'parso' means both the day before yesterday and the day after tomorrow. Only the verb tense separates them, which makes them a classic cause of wrong appointment dates.
Dialects are the other trap. Outpero is not trained per dialect. A Hindi speaker with a Bihari, Rajasthani or Haryanvi accent is the normal case on a Hindi list and is handled as a Hindi speaker, but a caller who moves fully into Bhojpuri, Marwari or Haryanvi is outside what the agent supports.
The five-step test, with Hindi lines to say
Run these from a mobile phone on a busy road or inside a shop, not from a quiet room, because most of your callers will not be sitting in silence. Each step takes under two minutes. Score each as pass, partial or fail, then read the transcript, since what the agent understood matters more than what it said.
- 01Call it, as a customer would. Place a live call from your own phone instead of watching a demo recording. Count how long the agent takes to speak after you stop. Around 1.5 seconds feels like conversation; beyond two seconds callers assume the line has dropped. Outpero's end-to-end latency is 0.8 to 1.3 seconds on average, and any vendor can be timed with a stopwatch.
- 02Switch language mid-sentence. Say: 'हाँ, मैंने form भरा था, but अभी budget थोड़ा flexible है, site visit weekend पर हो सकती है?' (Yes, I filled in the form, but the budget is a little flexible now; can the site visit be on the weekend?) Then answer two turns in full English. Pass: the agent follows both ways without asking which language you prefer.
- 03Interrupt it. While the agent is mid-sentence, cut in with 'रुकिए, एक मिनट'. (Wait, one minute.) Pass: it stops at once and listens. Fail: it finishes its script over you. Hindi callers interrupt freely, so this failure shows up on day one of a live campaign.
- 04Say numbers and names the Hindi way. Give a phone number as 'नौ आठ, double सात, तीन, triple एक, चार, पाँच' (9877311145), a budget of 'पौने दो लाख' (₹1.75 lakh), and a date, 'परसों शाम' (the day after tomorrow, evening). Add 'मेरा नाम अनिल गुप्ता है'. Then ask the agent to read everything back. Pass: the digits, amount and date all match.
- 05Ask something off-script. Say 'आप लोग Sunday को भी खुले हैं, और parking है?' (Are you open on Sundays too, and is there parking?) when neither is in the agent's brief. Pass: it says it will check, takes a message or hands the call to your team. Fail: it invents an answer, which is worse than admitting it does not know.
Four or five passes on a street call is a vendor worth a pilot. Three or fewer is a demo that happens to speak Hindi. Never decide on step one alone: latency is the easiest thing to fix and the least informative about whether the Hindi holds up.
Hindi AI voice agent options compared
Want to hear this working, not just read about it?
The table lists what each vendor publishes about Hindi and about price, taken from its own pages. Vendor details change, so check the vendor's site before deciding. Vendors that do not publish a price are marked as such; no figure has been estimated for them.
| Vendor | Hindi, as the vendor publishes it | Published price | Where it is stronger |
|---|---|---|---|
| Outpero | Hindi with Hinglish switching, one of seven Indian languages | Standard ₹5/min, Premium ₹6.8/min, no setup fee (excl. 18% GST) | Self-serve start; inbound, outbound and broadcast on a DLT-registered Indian line |
| Exotel | Voicebot page: fluent in Hindi, English and Hinglish | AI voice agent price not published; demo request | Full contact-centre stack with dialers and human takeover |
| SquadStack | Nine Indian languages including Hindi | Typically between ₹2 and ₹5 a minute plus a one-time setup cost, quoted after a discovery call | Managed rollout with a forward-deployed engineer; a lower indicative minute rate |
| Gnani.ai | Hindi among nine named Indian languages | Not published; book a demo | Regulated enterprises: on-premise deployment, security certifications, Bengali, Gujarati and Punjabi |
| Ringg AI | 20+ languages claimed, none named on its pages | ₹6 per connected minute pay-as-you-go; a monthly minimum commitment, amount not stated | WhatsApp and chat agents and a visual workflow builder |
| Vomyra | Names Hinglish and Hindi among 10+ vernacular languages | ₹599 seven-day trial; ₹15,000/month developer plan; flat plans from ₹19,999/month | Flat monthly fee, cheaper than per-minute billing at very high volume |
| KriraAI | Dedicated Hindi and Hinglish page | Not published; starts with a strategy call | Bespoke builds around your own CRM and workflows |
| Bland AI | API list names Hindi, Hindi in Latin script and English (India) | $0.14/min on Start; $0.12/min plus $299/month on Build; telephony billed separately | Very large regulated deployments and developer control |
Two honest notes on the table. A flat plan such as Vomyra's ₹19,999 a month works out cheaper than ₹5 a minute once a line passes about 4,000 minutes a month, so very heavy single-line users should compare. And enterprise buyers who need on-premise deployment or formal certifications will find more at Gnani.ai or Bland AI than at Outpero.
Where Outpero fits for Hindi, and where it does not
Inbound: answering Hindi calls on your number
The AI employee answers calls to your business number around the clock, handles the enquiry, qualifies it, books the appointment and logs the call. It remembers returning callers. A Jaipur jewellery showroom taking 'aaj ka gold rate' calls after closing time, or an Indore diagnostic lab fielding report queries at 9 pm, is the natural use.
Outbound: calling new leads in 30 seconds
Instant lead calling dials a new enquiry within 30 seconds of it arriving, from Meta lead ads, website forms, 99acres, MagicBricks or IndiaMART via Zapier, Make or a webhook. Bulk campaigns call every contact on an uploaded CSV, with calling windows, retries, callbacks and DND screening. Coaching admissions in Kota and Delhi, and COD confirmation across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, fit this mode well.
Voice broadcast: one message, many phones
Voice broadcast is not a conversation. One fixed message, an audio file you upload or text spoken in Outpero's voices, is played to everyone on a list and the call ends when the message does. It suits fee-due reminders, offer announcements and service alerts, and it is billed at a lower rate than conversation minutes.
Where it does not fit
- —Lists where callers move fully into Bhojpuri, Marwari, Haryanvi or another dialect. Test a small batch before scaling, and read the transcripts.
- —Lists that need Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Odia or Urdu. Outpero supports seven languages: Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam and English.
- —Buyers who need on-premise deployment, air-gapped hosting or a long list of enterprise certifications.
- —Calls that should always reach a person, such as a bereavement or a legal dispute. The agent can transfer to your team, but those calls are better routed to people from the first ring.
What a Hindi AI calling agent costs
Outpero charges for connected talk time only, from prepaid credits where 1 credit is ₹1. There is no setup fee, no monthly subscription and no contract, and unanswered calls are not billed. Prices exclude 18% GST.
- —Standard voices are ₹5 per connected minute. A two-minute lead-qualification call costs ₹10, so 100 such calls cost ₹1,000.
- —Premium voices are ₹6.8 per connected minute, for calls where the voice is the brand. The same 100 calls cost ₹1,360.
- —A dedicated +91 number is ₹649 a month and includes one channel, which is one call at a time. Each extra channel is ₹649 a month.
- —A worked month: 600 connected calls of two minutes is 1,200 minutes. At ₹5 that is ₹6,000. Add the number at ₹649 for ₹6,649, and 18% GST of about ₹1,197 brings it to roughly ₹7,846.
- —For comparison, a human telecaller in India costs roughly ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 a month, with ₹18,000 as the reference figure, works one shift and takes one call at a time. ₹18,000 buys 3,600 connected minutes at ₹5, which is 60 hours of talk, available at any hour.
Every account starts with 50 free credits and no card. At the Standard rate that is about ten minutes, enough to run all five test steps above on your own phone.
Who speaks Hindi, and where
Hindi is the working language of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. The industries differ by city, and so should the test lines.
- —Uttar Pradesh: property enquiries in Lucknow, Noida and Ghaziabad; COD order confirmation for ecommerce in Kanpur and Varanasi.
- —Delhi NCR and Haryana: coaching admissions, insurance renewals and car test drives, where callers move into English within a sentence or two.
- —Rajasthan: Kota coaching enquiries, and jewellery and tourism leads in Jaipur and Udaipur.
- —Madhya Pradesh: hospital and diagnostic enquiries in Indore and Bhopal.
- —Bihar and Jharkhand: loan and EMI follow-ups in Patna and Ranchi, where regional accents are strongest and a test batch matters most.
The verdict
Judge a Hindi AI voice agent on what it does under pressure: a Hinglish switch, an interruption, a number said the Hindi way and a question it was not briefed on. Language counts and showreel voices predict very little. Outpero is built as a specialist in regional-language voice AI, and the fastest way to check that claim is to spend the 50 free credits on the five steps above.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best Hindi AI voice agent in 2026?
+
The best one is whichever passes a live phone test: it follows a Hindi to English switch mid-sentence, keeps the 'aap' register, reads numbers like 'paune do lakh' correctly and answers in about 1.5 seconds. Outpero is a specialist in regional-language voice AI, with Hindi among seven languages from ₹5/min, but the five-step test above works on any vendor you shortlist.
Can an AI voice agent speak Hinglish?
+
Yes. Outpero's Hindi agent opens in Hindi and moves into English the moment the caller does, mid-sentence, in the same voice, so nobody is asked to choose a language. Hinglish is how most urban North Indian business calls sound, which is why an agent that insists on pure Hindi or pure English sounds scripted within seconds.
Does a Hindi AI agent understand Bhojpuri or Rajasthani accents?
+
A Hindi speaker with a regional accent is the normal case and is handled as a Hindi speaker. Outpero is not trained per dialect, though, so a caller who switches fully into Bhojpuri, Marwari or Haryanvi is outside what it supports. Run a small test batch from your own list and read the transcripts before a large campaign.
How much does a Hindi AI calling agent cost in India?
+
Outpero has no setup fee and no monthly subscription. Connected calls cost ₹5 a minute on Standard voices or ₹6.8 on Premium, a dedicated +91 number is ₹649 a month including one channel, and new accounts get 50 free credits. Prices exclude 18% GST. The per-minute price is the same in every language.
Can a Hindi AI voice bot answer inbound calls?
+
Yes. The agent answers calls to your business number 24/7, handles the enquiry, qualifies it, books the appointment and records everything. It also remembers returning callers and picks up from the last conversation. Where a person should take over, it can transfer the call to your team. Outbound calling and one-way voice broadcast run on the same number.
How do I test a Hindi AI telecaller before buying?
+
Sign up at app.outpero.com for 50 free credits, about ten minutes at the Standard rate, and call your own phone from a noisy place. Switch to English mid-sentence, interrupt, say a phone number with 'double' and 'triple', and ask something off-script. Then read the transcript and summary in the dashboard to see what it captured.
The Outpero team builds AI voice agents for Indian businesses, in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam and English. Figures are from Outpero's own product unless another source is named.
