Outpero

Does AI calling work in Gujarati?

Short answer

Not with Outpero. Gujarati is not supported today; Outpero's agents call in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Marathi, Kannada, Malayalam and English. Many Gujarati business owners and customers in Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara are comfortable on Hindi or English calls, so an Outpero agent can still work for those lists. For Gujarati-only callers, use human callers or a vendor that passes a live Gujarati test.

Where Gujarati matters

Census 2011 counted about 55 million first-language Gujarati speakers. Gujarat's selling is heavily phone-based: textile and diamond traders in Surat, pharmaceutical and chemical firms around Ahmedabad and Vadodara, ceramics in Morbi, and large real-estate and jewellery markets. Gujarati-speaking communities in Mumbai add to that.

What works today with Outpero

  • —Hindi: widely understood across Gujarat, especially in cities, among traders, and by migrant workers in Surat's textile and diamond units.
  • —English: the norm for B2B, export, pharma and IT conversations in Ahmedabad and Vadodara.
  • —Split lists: run Hindi or English campaigns on contacts who prefer them, and keep a human caller on Gujarati-first leads, often older buyers and rural customers in Saurashtra and Kutch.

Why a Hindi agent is not a Gujarati agent

Gujarati and Hindi share vocabulary, but they are different languages with different grammar, numbers and script. A Gujarati-first caller can usually follow a Hindi call, but trust drops when the caller has to work to understand. For a high-value purchase such as a flat on Ahmedabad's SG Highway or jewellery in Surat, that matters.

For one-way announcements there is a workaround. Outpero's voice broadcast plays a single fixed message to a whole list, with no AI conversation. If you upload an audio file recorded in Gujarati, callers hear Gujarati, which works for festive offers, stock alerts or payment reminders. Broadcast text synthesised in Outpero's own voices is limited to the seven live languages.

How to evaluate a Gujarati vendor

  1. 01Ask for a live call in Gujarati to your own phone.
  2. 02Talk to it in Gujarati mixed with English, as callers in Ahmedabad really do.
  3. 03Say amounts in lakh and dates the Gujarati way, and check the transcript.
  4. 04Interrupt the agent to see whether it stops and listens.

If Gujarati coverage is essential for most of your list, pick a vendor that passes those tests. If Hindi and English cover most callers, Outpero is live today with no setup fee, no lock-in and 50 free credits to test with.

Follow-up questions

Can I write a Gujarati script and have the agent speak it?

+

No. Gujarati is not a supported language, so writing the script in Gujarati will not produce a natural Gujarati call. Write the script in Hindi or English for the callers who are comfortable in those languages, and keep Gujarati-first callers with a human telecaller who speaks the language.
