Best Marathi AI Voice Agent (2026): How to Judge One

The best Marathi AI voice agent is the one that keeps speaking Marathi when a Mumbai caller drifts into Hindi and English, says “अडीच लाख” and “सव्वा बारा” correctly, uses the right honorific for the person on the line and replies in about 1.5 seconds. Outpero publishes this post and speaks Marathi, so use the five-step test below on every vendor, including ours.

Disclosure

Outpero sells an AI voice agent that speaks Marathi and publishes this post, so it has an interest in the answer. The test method works on any vendor. Facts about other vendors come from their own public pages, checked on 2026-10-14, and can change; confirm on the vendor's site before you decide.

Who speaks Marathi, and where the calls come from

Marathi is the third most spoken scheduled language in Census 2011, with about 8.3 crore speakers, roughly 6.9% of India. Most live in Maharashtra, with pockets in Goa, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh. For a business, that is a customer base larger than the population of most countries, and one that a Hindi-only agent serves badly.

The call mix differs sharply by city. Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai run on real estate, finance and services, with callers who flip between Marathi, Hindi and English inside one call. Pune's demand comes from the IT corridor at Hinjewadi and Kharadi and the auto belt at Pimpri-Chinchwad and Chakan.

Outside the two metros, calls are SME trade. Nashik has agri-trade, Nagpur has logistics and its orange trade, Kolhapur has foundries and sugar, Solapur has textiles and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has industrial suppliers. These businesses sell by phone, in Marathi, to buyers who would rather talk than fill in a form.

Why Marathi is hard for voice AI

It looks like Hindi and is not

Marathi shares Devanagari and a lot of vocabulary with Hindi, which is exactly why weak agents fail on it. Marathi has three genders, including neuter, verbs agree with the gender of the speaker and the object, and the sounds differ, including the retroflex “ळ.” A model that treats Marathi as Hindi with different words produces sentences that sound like a Hindi speaker's imitation.

Gender is a practical problem. If the agent's persona is male, it should say “मी बोलतोय”; a female persona says “मी बोलतेय.” An agent that mixes the two within a call is noticed immediately, and it is easy to test.

Marathi-English and Hindi in the same call

Business Marathi is full of English: “site visit Saturday ला ठेवायची का?”, “EMI किती पडेल?”, “GST invoice पाठवा.” In Mumbai, callers also slip into Hindi, which is the language of the street even when the lead form was filled in Marathi. The agent has to follow all three and not insist on one.

Test the quiet failure too: a caller who answers in Hindi to a Marathi greeting. A good agent continues in Hindi. A poor one keeps asking in Marathi, which feels like being corrected by a machine.

Honorifics and address

Marathi has “तू” for close people, “तुम्ही” for most adults and “आपण” for formal respect, and “आपण” also means an inclusive “we.” It adds suffixes and titles: “-राव,” “साहेब,” “ताई,” “दादा,” “काका,” “मॅडम.” Calling a shopkeeper in Kolhapur “साहेब” and a woman in Pune “ताई” is natural. Using “तू” by mistake is rude, and the error is common in models trained on informal text.

Amounts, fractions and names

Marathi numbers from 21 to 99 are famously irregular, and money is spoken with fractions: “सव्वा लाख” is 1.25 lakh, “दीड लाख” 1.5 lakh, “अडीच लाख” 2.5 lakh and “पावणे दोन लाख” 1.75 lakh. For a property buyer or a loan applicant these are the figures that matter, and a misheard fraction changes the budget by ₹25,000 or more.

Names have their own order: first name, father's name, surname, as in “Rajesh Dnyaneshwar Patil.” Surnames like Kulkarni, Deshmukh and Jadhav are common, and English transliteration varies. An agent should confirm spelling and ask which name goes on the booking.

A five-step test you can run in 20 minutes

Use a real phone, preferably from a noisy place, and run the same steps on every vendor. Keep a stopwatch.

  1. 01Hindi drift. Greet in Marathi, answer in Hindi, then go back to Marathi and finish in English. The agent should follow each move without lecturing you back into one language.
  2. 02Fractions and amounts. Say “अडीच लाखांपर्यंत budget आहे,” “सव्वा बारा वाजता” and a phone number. Ask the agent to repeat them. Any error on figures is an error on money.
  3. 03Gender and honorific. Listen to a whole call for “बोलतोय” versus “बोलतेय,” and check that “आपण” or “तुम्ही” is used with an older caller and that “ताई” or “साहेब” lands naturally.
  4. 04Marathi-English and trade terms. Say “carpet area किती आहे, RERA number द्या” or “GST bill पाठवा.” English terms embedded in Marathi are what real callers say and what demos avoid.
  5. 05Speed, interruption and finish. Interrupt mid-sentence; the agent should stop. Time the reply, which should come in about 1.5 seconds. Then book a real slot and read the transcript and summary afterwards to see whether the record is accurate.

Where Outpero fits in Maharashtra, and where it does not

Inbound: the call that arrives while you are on a site visit

The AI employee answers calls to your business number around the clock, qualifies the enquiry, books the appointment and logs everything, and recognises a returning caller. For a Pune dealership or a Thane sales office, that means the calls that land during a showroom rush or after 9 p.m. are not lost.

Outbound: speed to lead from 99acres, MagicBricks and Meta ads

Instant lead calling dials a new enquiry within 30 seconds from Meta and Google lead forms, a website form or a portal feed, and bulk campaigns call a CSV list with calling windows, retries, callbacks and DND screening. For Mumbai real estate, where the same buyer enquires on three portals, the first call usually wins the conversation.

Voice broadcast: announcements to a trader list

Broadcast plays one fixed message, as an uploaded audio file or text in Outpero's voices, to everyone on a list. It is not a conversation. SME traders in Nashik or Solapur use that shape for rate announcements, payment due notices and festival offers. It is billed at a lower rate than AI conversation minutes.

Where it is not the right fit

  • —Calls that need negotiation or a person's judgement. The agent can transfer the call to your team, but it should not close a final price.
  • —Strong regional speech on every call, such as Varhadi or Konkan coast Marathi. Outpero does not claim per-dialect training, so test with callers from those areas.
  • —Languages beyond the seven. Gujarati, which many Mumbai traders use, is not supported, and neither are Konkani, Bengali, Punjabi, Odia, Urdu or Assamese.
  • —Teams that want a managed, sales-led rollout with a named account manager. Outpero is self-serve; high volumes get custom rates and setup help.

What Maharashtra businesses use it for

Mumbai real estate. Developers and brokers in Thane, Navi Mumbai and the western suburbs generate a heavy stream of portal and ad enquiries. The agent calls each one, asks configuration, budget and timeline in Marathi or Hindi, and books a site visit. RERA-registered projects need accurate answers, so the knowledge base should carry the registration details.

Pune IT and auto. Hinjewadi and Kharadi employers hire in volume, and recruitment teams spend hours on first-round screening calls. Pimpri-Chinchwad and Chakan vendors and dealerships run test-drive and service booking. An AI employee does the first call, captures the fields you asked for and hands over a short summary.

SME trade across the state. Distributors in Nashik, Kolhapur and Nagpur take orders, follow up on payments and answer the same questions repeatedly. Inbound answering plus a weekly payment-reminder broadcast replaces a good part of a telecaller's day. The key requirement is Marathi-English, because trade terms stay in English.

What it costs, with the arithmetic

There is no setup fee, no monthly subscription and no contract. You pay for connected talk time from prepaid credits, where 1 credit is ₹1 and credits never expire. Standard is ₹5 a minute and Premium ₹6.8. A dedicated +91 number is ₹649/month with one channel, which is one call at a time, and each extra channel is ₹649/month. Unanswered calls are not billed. Prices exclude 18% GST.

  • —A 90-second qualification call: ₹7.50 on Standard, ₹10.50 on Premium, before GST.
  • —A Mumbai developer calling 1,000 portal enquiries on three channels: roughly six hours of dialling. If 400 connect and each runs 1.5 minutes, that is 600 minutes, or ₹3,000 on Standard and ₹4,200 on Premium.
  • —The monthly line for that setup: ₹649 for the number plus two extra channels at ₹649 each is ₹1,947. With ₹3,000 of calls the total is ₹4,947, or about ₹5,837 with 18% GST.
  • —The comparison: a Marathi-speaking telecaller costs roughly ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 a month (₹18,000 is a fair reference), works one shift and handles one call at a time.
  • —A new account starts with 50 free credits and no card, enough for 10 minutes of Standard conversation to run the test above.

A short verdict

Judge a Marathi AI voice agent on five things: whether it stays distinct from Hindi, whether fractions and amounts are heard right, whether gender and honorifics hold through the call, whether English trade terms are understood, and whether it replies in about 1.5 seconds and finishes the task.

Outpero is a specialist in regional-language voice AI, and Marathi is one of seven live languages alongside Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Indian English. The per-minute price is the same in all of them, and the 50 free credits are enough to run the whole test before you commit.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Marathi AI voice agent?

+

The best one is the one that passes your own test: it keeps Marathi distinct from Hindi, follows Marathi-English mid-sentence, hears amounts like “अडीच लाख” correctly and replies in about 1.5 seconds. Outpero speaks Marathi and lets you test with 50 free credits, but run the five steps on every vendor before choosing.

Can an AI voice agent speak Marathi, not just Hindi?

+

Yes. Marathi has its own grammar, three genders and sounds, so a good agent treats it as a separate language and not as Hindi with different words. Test this by speaking Marathi, then replying in Hindi, and listening for gender agreement in the agent's own sentences.

How well does a Marathi voice bot handle English words?

+

Callers mix English into Marathi constantly, in words like “site visit,” “EMI” and “GST invoice.” Outpero follows the caller into English in the same voice, and back. Test it with trade terms from your own business, because those are the words that decide whether the booking is correct.

How much does a Marathi AI calling agent cost?

+

Outpero has no setup fee or monthly subscription. Connected calls cost ₹5 a minute on Standard or ₹6.8 on Premium, the same in every language, and a +91 number is ₹649/month including one channel. Prices exclude 18% GST. A telecaller costs around ₹18,000 a month and handles one call at a time.

Can it call leads from 99acres and MagicBricks in Marathi?

+

Yes. Portal enquiries can reach Outpero through Zapier, Make or a webhook, and the agent dials within 30 seconds. It asks about configuration, budget and timeline in Marathi or Hindi, follows the caller into English, books a site visit and writes the summary into your dashboard and webhook.

Is voice broadcast the same as an AI call?

+

No. Broadcast plays one fixed message, either an uploaded audio file or text in Outpero's voices, to everyone on a list, and the call ends when it finishes. It suits reminders and offers. An AI call is a two-way conversation that can answer questions, qualify and book, and it is billed per connected minute.
