How many calls can a human telecaller make in a day?
It depends on how long calls last and how much of the shift is real talk time, not dialling or waiting. A telecaller with 2 hours of conversation a day handles about 60 two-minute calls or 30 four-minute calls. An AI voice agent is not limited by a shift: each Outpero channel works through about 55 dials an hour.
The arithmetic
A telecaller's day is not eight hours of talking. Dialling, waiting, unanswered calls, note-taking, breaks and team meetings take most of it. Daily calls therefore equal talk minutes divided by minutes per call. The talk time below is an assumption you can replace with your own call log.
| Talk time per day (assumed) | 2-minute calls | 4-minute calls |
|---|---|---|
| 1.5 hours (90 min) | 45 | about 22 |
| 2 hours (120 min) | 60 | 30 |
| 3 hours (180 min) | 90 | 45 |
Dials are higher than conversations, because many numbers do not pick up. If 4 in 10 dials connect, 60 conversations needs about 150 dials.
What limits a human
- —One call at a time, so no amount of effort multiplies output.
- —A single shift, so evenings, Sundays and late enquiries go uncalled.
- —Fatigue, where the fiftieth call of the day is rarely as sharp as the fifth.
- —Note-taking, so details are lost between calls unless someone updates the CRM.
How AI compares
Each Outpero channel, meaning one call at a time on your number, works through about 55 dials an hour. Running for 8 hours that is around 440 dials per channel, and 5 channels run 5 calls at once. Calling windows can cover evenings and weekends, and each call is recorded and summarised. A new enquiry is dialled within 30 seconds.
Cost differs too. A telecaller at the ₹18,000 reference salary works about 26 days, so a 2-hour talk day costs roughly ₹5.77 per talk minute. On Standard, Outpero costs ₹5 per connected minute plus ₹649/month for a number, before 18% GST.
What this means for staffing
Use AI for volume: first calls, reminders and qualification. Let telecallers spend their limited talk hours on interested leads the AI has already warmed. That split typically raises the share of a human's day spent on conversations that matter.
