How long does it take to set up an AI voice agent?
A simple AI voice agent can be set up and tested in a few hours, and going live within a day or two is a realistic plan. With Outpero there is no setup fee and no onboarding queue: you sign up, write the brief, test-call yourself and connect a lead source. Integration and script testing, not the platform, decide the timeline.
A realistic timeline
| Stage | Typical time | What decides it |
|---|---|---|
| Sign up and create the AI employee | 15 minutes | Nothing; it is self-serve at app.outpero.com |
| Write the brief and questions | 1 to 3 hours | How clearly you can describe a good lead |
| Test calls and edits | 1 to 3 hours | How many objections and edge cases you try |
| Connect a lead source | 30 minutes to a day | Zapier or Make is quick; CRM workflows need an admin |
| Webhook for results | 30 minutes to a few hours | Where the results must land |
What takes the time
The platform part is short. The slow part is deciding what the agent should say and what it should never say. Write down the reason for the call, the three or four questions that qualify a lead, the answers to the ten questions customers ask most, and when the agent should end the call politely. Teams that already have a telecaller script can adapt it in an hour.
Integration time depends on your stack. A Facebook form wired through Zapier can be calling leads the same afternoon. A Salesforce or LeadSquared flow that needs an admin, a sandbox and approval can take a week, and none of that delay is the voice agent.
A one-day plan
- 01Morning: create the employee, pick one of the seven languages and a voice tier, and write the brief.
- 02Before lunch: call yourself ten times, as a keen buyer, a confused one, a rude one and someone who switches to English mid-sentence. Edit after each.
- 03Afternoon: connect one lead source or upload a small CSV of about fifty contacts, and set the results webhook.
- 04End of day: review transcripts and summaries, fix the misses, then widen the rollout.
Start narrow
Go live on one source and one campaign before connecting everything. The 50 free signup credits cover a round of testing, and there is no monthly fee to pay while you refine the brief. Expand to bulk campaigns and more lead sources once the first set of transcripts reads the way a good telecaller would sound.
Plan a short daily review for the first week. Most fixes after launch are small: a missing fact, an unclear question, or a closing line that needs to state the next step more plainly.
